Man United have confirmed that Alvaro Fernandez has joined Benfica on a permanent deal.
Samuel Luckhurst reports that the Red Devils will receive a €6m fee for the left-back, plus potentially €3m in add-ons.
The journalist adds that Man United have included a sell-on and a buy-back clause in the deal. It means that the club will be able to buy him back if they deem him good enough for the team, and get a percentage from future sale if they don't.
The Spaniard joined the Red Devils in 2020 from Real Madrid but failed to make a single first-team appearance for United. He spent the second part of this season on loan with Benfica, making 11 league appearances and scoring once.
