Frenkie de Jong, Declan Rice & 5 times Erik ten Hag didn't get player he wanted at Man United

A comprehensive report by The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell has revealed the numerous times Erik ten Hag missed out on his preferred players in the past two transfer windows.

The boss' signings have often come under fire for over-spending on players like Antony, Mason Mount and more who arguably don't deserve it.

Ten Hag has already revealed he missed out on signing Harry Kane as he was deemed too expensive by the Glazers.

A similar situation followed with Declan Rice, who ended up moving to Arsenal instead.

Ten Hag met Randal Kolo Muani last summer but he was judged to be not a good fit for Manchester United.

Another high-profile signing Ten Hag missed is Frenkie de Jong; the boss reportedly regrets that decision to date.

Man United failed to sign Denzel Dumfries, a player highly valued by Ten Hag, due to money issues. When they were hit by a defensive crisis last season, Erik's stance was justified to spend on defenders.

Man United were also close to agreeing a deal for Bart Verbruggen, a young Dutch goalkeeper, who joined Brighton instead last summer.

Ten Hag also wanted Man United to sign Cody Gakpo before he joined Liverpool in December 2022.
