Unfortunately, the reign of the two greatest football players is drawing to its end.
In his interview to DAZN, Messi made no secret of his emotions about one of the hottest rivalries the world has ever faced.
"The sporting duel between us was very nice on a personal level and I think people had fun too, whether they supported Madrid or Barca, or even only football fans in general.
"It was a special duel and it will remain forever because it lasted many years. It is not easy to maintain certain levels for a long time.
"Plus the teams we played in were also very demanding, both Real Madrid and Barcelona were the two best teams in the world.
"Competing on an equal footing for so many years, I think it [the rivalry] will remain forever."
The two have parted ways - Messi remains Barcelona top striker, while Cristiano Ronaldo left to conquer Serie A.
