According to the latest reports from El Desmarque, Los Blancos have identified Athletic Bilbao's keeper Unai Simon, 22, as their target for the next summer.
The 22-year-old has broken through into Bilbao's first team this season ahead of long-term regular Iago Herrerin and is described as ‘agile, has good reflexes, good shot-stopping, good aerial game and good positioning.’
Simon is a regular pick for Spain U-21. He helped La Furia to the European Championships title and is viewed as one of the most promising keepers in La Liga.
So, it's small wonder Los Blancos have identified Unai as their potential target and will be ready to trigger his €50m release clause come next summer.
Madrid's board are said to be unconvinced with Courtois' form, while Areola will be going back to PSG next summer, leaving the goalkeeping spot open.
Unai Simon has starred in eight La Liga games for Gaizka Garitano’s side this season.
