![Why playing Militao at right-back might not be the best idea explained in 5 key points](https://pictures.tribuna.com/images/bf/88/a7/bf88a7baf21d4ec6acceec7864463f14.jpg?width=1920&quality=70)
- Militao is and has always been primarily a centre-back and has been signed as such by Real Madrid with an idea for him to eventually replace Sergio Ramos.
- However, the Brazilian has only made 12 appearances for Los Blancos this season, failing to provide competition for the captain, and now might be forced to play a make-shift full-back replacing ill Carvajal.
- Militao has experience on this position for Porto: he played on the right 15 times last season, after Pepe's return to Estadio do Dragao, including Champions League clashes against Roma and Liverpool.
- However, even Brazil coach Tito, under whom Militao is a regular, doesn't rate the 22-year-old in the full-back role. "I prefer him at centre-back. At full-back, he'd have difficulties in attack," said Tite last year.
- Real Madrid have Lucas Vazquez, who is both more experienced and more accustomed to the right-back position and would contribute more in attack.
- Moreover, the last game Militao started in didn't go as planned. The 22-year-old looked really rusty in his Real Sociedad clash in Copa del Rey.
Starting the Brazilian against Betis and - if it comes to it - Manchester City might turn out to be a quite costly choice for Los Blancos.
