'He has an air of Xabi Alonso about him': ex-Madridista Benavente in awe of Madrid target Eduardo Camavinga

Former Real Madrid Castilla midfielder Cristian Benavente has compared Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga to Xabi Alonso as the young Frenchman is believed to be among Zinedine Zidane's priority targets for the summer.

“He has caught my attention a lot,” Benavente told Marca.

“I would emphasise that he is always well-marked when it comes to receiving the ball and moving forward and that, at his age, is very difficult.

“He does not lose the ball in congested areas, he is reliable with short, medium and long passes and, with the ball at his feet, he can break lines with his drives forward. He has an air of Xabi Alonso about him.”

Alonso's best bits with the Whites:

Benavente, once dubbed as the Peruvian Ronaldinho, spent 11 years in Real's youth system before he was promoted to Castilla side in 2013. After two years with the reserves, he moved to Milton Keynes Dons.

The 25-year-old now plays for French outfit Nantes on loan from Pyramids FC. The Peruvian faced Camavinga twice this season.

Eduardo, 17, has made 36 appearances for Rennes this term so far, including 24 starts in the Ligue 1. The Whites are said to be leading the race for the €50m-rated midfielder (Fabrizio Romano).
