Christopher Schorch, currently at Saarbrucken in Germany's Fourth Division, once passed through the Real Madrid youth academy. In an interview with Goal, the defender shared an interesting anecdote which happened before his dream Bernabeu move.
"I was sitting in my dorm room when I received a call from a hidden number. The person said in English: 'This is Real Madrid's sports director, Predrag Mijatovic, I like your way of playing'. I told him: 'Yes, yes, sure' and I hung up.
"I thought my friends were pulling a prank on me. However, just a few hours later, my agent called me and asked me to meet him at a restaurant in Berlin. When I got there, he was sitting alongside Mijatovic.
"I was out of breath. Then I apologized to Mijatovic thousand times and explained the situation to him. He told me that something like that had never happened to him before, but he liked it."
Eventually, the funny situation didn't stop Madrid from luring the German defender. He spent two years playing for the B team and appeared in 27 games from 2007 to 2009.
After failing to break into the first team, he moved to Koln. He has also played for German sides Energie Cottbus, Bochum, Duisburg, FSV Frankfurt and Bayer Hardingen, before moving to fourth-tier outfit Saarbrucken in 2019.
