How Madrid's Chelsea connection helped Lunin save Man City penalties

Andriy Lunin saved two penalties, from Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic, helping Real Madrid beat Man City and advance to the Champions League semi-final.

Before the shootout, Kepa was spotted giving instructions to the Ukrainian. The Spaniard had already faced Bernardo Silva in the penalties during his time at Chelsea. Silva beat Kepa by shooting in the middle — he tried to repeat the trick with Lunin on Wednesday but the Ukrainian easily saved the Portuguese's cocky effort.

And when Mateo Kovacic took his penalty, Toni Rudiger — the Croatian's former teammate at Stamford Bridge — signalled to Lunin where the midfielder would aim at. The Ukrainian stopped Kovacic's penalty, too.

What can we say, thank you Chelsea 😂 Madrid paid nothing for Rudiger and a million euros for Kepa's season-long loan.

Lunin also acknowledged Luka Modric's help. "We trained the penalties with the coach obviously. And Luka Modrić helped me with his advice," he said post-match.
