According to L’Equipe, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi tried his best to convince Kylian Mbappe against joining Real Madrid as a free agent.
He tried to play mind games with the French forward and get him to sign a new contract with PSG. This includes delivering three ‘warning signs’ to the player.
Mbappe was reportedly told that ‘you cannot join our biggest (European) rival for free’. Al-Khelaifi even warned him that he was ‘legitimizing the Super League’. This is in reference to Los Blancos’ attempts to kick-start that tournament.
The PSG president tried to trick Kylian by also claiming that ‘big players leave their clubs for major transfer fees’ and not as free agents.
But, Mbappe and his entourage were unmoved by all this. The 25-year-old was intent on seeing out his PSG contract and leaving as a free agent.
Real Madrid have also reportedly agreed a deal to sign the French forward in July and are likely to announce his arrival after the Champions League final.
