Football League Player of the Year winner Watkins: 'That's the dream to play for Arsenal one day'

Brentford striker Ollie Watkins admits that he hopes to join Arsenal.

"Yeah, the dream," he said at the London Football Awards ceremony. "That’s the dream to play for Arsenal one day, but you know, it’s a long shot."

The 24-year-old received the EFL Player of the Year award for his goalscoring heroics in the Championship.

This season, the Englishman has found the net 22 times in 35 games in England's second-tier league and is the division's second top scorer. He has also provided three assists in the process.

Previously, Brentford manager Thomas Frank likened Watkins to Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It’s a big comparison so I don’t want to go down that route but, in a way, I’ve mentioned it now,” Frank told the Wandsworth Guardian in August last year.

“He’s like a Cristiano Ronaldo-type, that he can play as a nine or he can play to the side, or he can play as a 10, but because he’s so versatile he has abilities you can benefit off in all positions."

While CR7 comparisons might be a bit too much, the 24-year-old has been a crucial bee in Thomas Frank's hive this season, scoring more than a third of Brentford's goals.

Do you think it'd be a good idea to make Ollie's dream come true and sign him?
