Arsenal 'lost ground' in Upamecano race as Man United emerge as frontrunners

According to France Football, a very reliable source normally, Arsenal appear to be losing the transfer fight for Dayot Upamecano.

The Gunners were the first Premier League club to express interest in the centre-back but many other teams are now keen on the 21-year-old.

This includes Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City and Manchester United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are now the favourites to land the Frenchman as they consider him a cheaper alternative to Kalidou Koulibaly.

The source adds that Arsenal are 'financially limited' and are therefore expected to lose the race for Upamecano.

In what feels like yet another blow, RB Leipzig are said to be prepared to sell the defender for €40m in contrast to their previous €60m asking price.

Recently, we covered the Gunners' interest in Reims centre-half Axel Disasi. Apparently, the young defender could be a cheap alternative to Upamecano.

However, as per The Athletic, Mikel Arteta prefers to make Pablo Mari's move permanent instead of spending money on the 22-year-old.
