'Does Feyenoord want me to stay?': Orkun Kokcu rules out exit but there's a catch

Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu has squashed transfer rumours, saying that he sees himself at De Kuip. However, the midfielder admits he is not satisfied with the money Feyenoord have so far offered him.

"I'm not done here yet, I’m having a good time, I want to become champion next year," the 19-year-old told Voetbal International as relayed by Football Oranje.

"But I’ve had an offer twice now that – with all due respect – wasn’t what I’d hoped for.

"And now it is quiet. I don’t know if it’s conscious, but it sometimes feels like the club is waiting to sell me after all. That there is no turning back then. It feels a bit uncomfortable. Does Feyenoord want me to stay?

"I know, clubs are having a hard time, Feyenoord too. But in principle I will earn money for the club if everything goes well. And I really don’t have to become the highest paid player here, not even close. Just give me the feeling that I am really a key player in every way."

The Haarlem native has a contract until 2023 so it's quite strange he's asking for an extension while still having three years on his current deal. While we understand he is frustrated with his Feyenoord's offers, it does not feel right to leak to press what should be an internal issue.

According to Voetbal International, a tier-one source for Dutch transfers, Arsenal are 'very serious' about the midfielder who earned comparisons with Mesut Ozil due to his style of play and Turkish origin.

Earlier, we identified the positives and negatives of landing the 19-year-old who could potentially come on a bargain fee.

The Dutch season was voided because of the pandemic. Kokcu's Feyenoord were third before the cancellation, with the midfielder making 22 appearances, contributing with two goals and four assists.
