Arsenal reportedly offer contract to defender Malang Sarr – Patrick Vieira described him as 'leader'

According to Spanish outlet Marca, centre-back Malang Sarr has left OGC Nice following the expiry of his contract. The 21-year-old has attracted interest from Arsenal and RB Leipzig.

The source goes as far as to claim that both the Bundesliga side and the Gunners have already approached the Frenchman with offers.

While Sarr's preferred position is in the middle of defence, he is also capable of playing as a left-back. After signing a professional deal with his hometown club, he made 119 appearances for the Ligue 1 side across all competitions.

The 21-year-old was a first-team player under former Gunner and current OGC Nice boss Patrick Vieira. In the 2018/19 campaign, the French Riviera side conceded just 35 goals in 38 games, and Malang played an important role in his team's success.

Watch Pat discuss his historic 1996 move to North London:

After the February clash against Toulouse, in which Sarr was handed a captain armband, the Invincible lavished praise on the defender.

"He has the personality of a leader," Vieira said as quoted by Tribal Football. "He answers simply and clearly."

Compliments from Vieira did not prevent the 21-year-old from leaving the club, though. He is now available on a free.

While Arsenal are stacked in the centre-back department, Sarr is a proven talent and, for no transfer fee, he can be a gamble. We are sure Patrick Vieira will consult Arteta regarding the potential move for the Frenchman.
