Telegraph: Arsenal set to sign Willian but pull plug on Coutinho pursuit

According to Matt Law of the Telegraph, a tier 1 source, Willian is edging closer to joining Arsenal. However, Chelsea still hope that the Brazilian will change his mind and accept their 2-year-offer.

While the Gunners are ready to hand him a 3-year contract with an option to extend for another 12 months, Chelsea are proposing him a higher base salary. On the other hand, the north Londoners are set to offer the winger some lucrative bonuses on appearances and success.

It means that by the end of his contract with Arsenal the forward will pocket more money even if the club don't activate the extension option.

Law has also added via Twitter that signing Willian will put an end on Philippe Coutinho pursuit as the Gunners plan to get only one of the two Brazilians.

As for Willian, the 31-year-old sat out the FA Cup final against Arsenal due to injury. It remains to be seen if he completes recovery before the away leg against Bayern on Saturday night.

Even if he does, the winger may have certain concerns about his involvement in that game after watching his teammate Pedro getting injured and stretchered off the pitch at the end of the Wembley showdown. He has undergone surgery on his shoulder.

The ex-Barcelona man is out of contract with Chelsea but is yet to pen a deal with Roma. It is believed the 33-year-old will still join the Giallorossi this summer but in Willian's case, nothing has been agreed yet. So the latter may refuse to risk his health, especially after a 3-0 loss in the first leg.
