Willian: 'Arteta wants to win Champions League in 3 years'

Willian's 3-year contract at Arsenal raised some eyebrows even among fans, who argued that the Brazilian's best years are behind him. The winger himself explains why he wanted a longer contract - and drops a bomb regarding Arteta's plans to the side.

"One of the reasons I wanted a three-year deal was to be part of a plan, not just a player passing through," Willian told The Sun. "When I talked with the manager he told me why he needed me for three years.

"It was that he first wanted to qualify for the Champions League and win it by the time I left. That was what I wanted to hear.

"I was at Chelsea for seven years and won everything except the Champions League. Hopefully this move will give me the trophy I haven’t got as well as another Premier League title."

It took Jurgen Klopp 3 years to get to the CL final after joining Liverpool and another one to win, so we can certainly see where Arteta is coming from. However, there's a lot of work to be done even simply in terms of squad turnover.

His goal looks an optimistic one from where we are now but if the Spaniard pulls it off, he'll deserve a statue at the Emirates. We are not even kidding.
