'He's another player who's ready to leave the club': Fabrizio Romano on Shkodran Mustafi

Shkodran Mustafi has fallen by the wayside this season: the defender made just 3 league appearances, all from the bench, totalling at just 43 minutes. The German doesn't seem to have a future with the Gunners after his contract expires this summer - and perhaps he'll be gone even this month.

"Genoa were really interested; before contacting Sokratis, they were trying for Mustafi but there was no agreement about the salary. Let’s see if any other club will register an interest - at the moment, I don’t have anything confirmed about Barcelona," Fabrizio Romano told Chronicles of a Gooner podcast.

"So, at the moment, with Mustafi there is nothing advanced, but for sure he’s a player ready to leave the club in the coming days. He’s not intending to extend his contract - at the moment - because in football, never say never."

Mustafi seems to be firmly behind Rob Holding, Gabriel, Pablo Mari and even David Luiz - whose deal is also up this summer - in the pecking order. Calum Chambers is another option at centre-back.

We won't be surprised if Mustafi leaves this month, although it will be interesting just how much we can salvage from his sale. So far all of our players have either left on loan or on a free.
