Thierry Henry is preparing to lead Les Bleus in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris this summer. He has the job of picking 18 players for the squad, however, only three can be older than 23.
Players like Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, and Olivier Giroud are expected to be chosen. William Saliba, though, qualifies as under 23, so Henry will be waiting for his assistance. Especially after the head of the French Football Federation stated: "Our aim is to build the best team possible."
But there's a problem for Henry: Arsenal might not let Saliba go because the tournament isn't officially recognized by FIFA. However, as the Games are in France, the opportunity to win gold on home turf might be tempting for the chosen players.
Mbappe, for example, has expressed his excitement to play, saying: "I hope I'll be there. Everybody knows I always dreamt of playing at the Olympics."
It still remains unclear whether Saliba would like to join Mbappe and whether Arsenal will let him do it. The Euro runs from June 14 to July 14, and players who participate will need some extra time off before joining their clubs for pre-season training.
Meanwhile, the Olympic Football Tournament runs from July 24 to August 9 with the final scheduled just one week prior to the potential 2024/25 Premier League opener on August 16.
