Telegraph: Abraham set to reject Nigeria and stay committed to England

According to the Telegraph, Tammy Abraham has his mind set on breaking into the England squad and intends to reject the Nigeria Football Federation's advances.

The 21-year-old has not played a competitive game for the Three Lions and could potentially make a switch to represent the country of his father's birth.

However, the striker looks poised to wait for a call from Gareth Southgate which may happen as early as in October when England will travel to the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

The manager has already assured the journalists that Abraham's progress is closely monitored:

"Tammy is one of a number of players who have either started the season well or we know well from our junior teams. This squad can look different over the next months."

This would be a disappointing outcome for Nigerian Football Federation president Amaju Pinnock who is also a close friend of Tammy's father.

"We will not relent in our quest for good players to pay for the country and win laurels. We will keep talking to good players of Nigerian descent to play for their Fatherland," he has earlier commented on their efforts.

"But these kids are very independent-minded. We have been told to wait until April 2020, when he hopes to make a final decision on the matter.

"I told him that he had a better chance of playing regularly for Nigeria than with England, which has a galaxy of strikers."
