'He’s not for sale – it’s as simple as that': Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers fires Ben Chilwell transfer warning to Chelsea

“He’s a Leicester City player and not a player we want to lose,” Rodgers said when asked about Chilwell’s future ahead of the Premier League trip to Tottenham on Sunday.

“I’m quite relaxed on it. I’m not worried at all. We’ve got a fantastic squad, a squad we want to keep together. There’s no intention to sell Ben Chilwell and there’s absolutely no need to sell.

“So the message is he’s not for sale – it’s as simple as that.”

Chilwell has long been linked with a move to Chelsea ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with Frank Lampard supposedly keen to bolster his left-back department after completing deals for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Reports earlier in the year claimed that Leicester could demand a fee in excess of £60 million, close to even £80 million, for the 23-year-old, whose contract runs until 2023, thus forcing the Blues to look for cheaper alternatives in the market.

Porto's Alex Telles, Everton's Lucas Digne, and Ajax's Nicolas Tagliafico have also been earmarked as potential left-back options at Stamford Bridge, with Emerson and Marcos Alonso both linked with moves away from West London.

Should Chelsea now turn their attention to other left-back targets, now that Leicester are clearly unwilling to sell Chilwell? Share your thoughts in comments or join our new blogging platform!
