King of first impressions: Stat shows Gilmour's immediate and incredible impact when he starts

Billy Gilmour was handed his first Scotland start against England on Friday and promptly received Man of the Match honours for his performance.

The 20-year-old went up against the likes of Mason Mount and Phil Foden but was unfazed, helping Scotland earn a 0-0 draw.

Making an observation after the game, Adam Newsom on Twitter said, "Unless I'm mistaken, Billy Gilmour was named man of the match after his FA Cup debut, Premier League debut, first Champions League start and now his first Scotland start."

Gilmour has now impressed thoroughly on his first appearance on every new stage of his young career, which goes to show not just his incredible talent but his self-belief and mental strength as well.

The Chelsea youngster should be starting again in Scotland's final group game against Croatia where he will face another familiar Chelsea face in midfield, Mateo Kovacic.
