Chelsea are set to extend Xavier Simons' deal, reliable Nizaar Kinsella reports.

The 19-year-old's current contract expires this month. The Blues were risking losing him on free transfer, with Southampton, Brighton, Norwich and Watford interested in snapping up the youngster.

The Englishman made his Chelsea debut against Brentford in the League Cup in December last year.

Described as a 'vocal and tough-tackling midfielder' by Chelsea's official website, Simons is considered a top prospect. Perhaps a loan move or two and he would be ready for the first team.
