8 best Chelsea players this season according to flawed rating model

Among many options to rate a player's performance in a game or a season, there's one tool that seems to be especially popular on social media - WhoScored's rating system.

Their official website claims that their 'player ratings are based on each event recorded in the game calculated live automatically using our own algorithms, which comprise over 200 raw statistics. All events are valued based on a researched perception of the effect on the outcome on the match. Positive events are valued against negative events.'

In short, all the ratings are based on actions that you could actually count: goals, assists, dribbles, tackles etc.

Goals and assists are probably the biggest factor, though, which is why this is a flawed model that's skewed towards the attackers - or the goalkeepers who make a lot of saves.

Still, we've decided to look at how the Chelsea players are rated there.

Here are the eight most highly-rated Blues who have appeared in at least eight Premier League games this season.

1. Kepa - 7.16

2. Reece James - 7.08

3. Thiago Silva - 7.00

4. Mason Mount - 6.90

6. Kai Havertz - 6.75

7. Raheem Sterling - 6.74

N'Golo Kante has the highest average rating of them all (7.20) but has only made two Premier League appearances this season so far.
