Nicolas Jackson: 'When Benzema was young he was missing a lot of chances. Then he won Ballon d'Or'

Nicolas Jackson is optimistic that he will overcome a rough patch and silence his critics — and he takes inspiration from Karim Benzema's story.

"Sometimes I go to sleep watching the same videos, always thinking I should’ve done better," the Chelsea striker told talkSPORT.

“But when I was young, I saw [Karim] Benzema playing for Real Madrid. I was supporting Madrid when I was young and Benzema was missing a lot of chances. But you know, later he won the Ballon d’Or.

"I’m not saying I’m that level. I can’t be that level now. But I’ve seen it before so I’m not worried. I’m just trying to improve every day and be where I want to be."

In his first season at Chelsea, Jackson has so far scored seven goals in the Premier League but is perhaps better remembered for the chances he missed.

It's not a given that his best position is as a No.9 anyway as he was not too bad playing on the left wing. In any case, the jury is still out on the 22-year-old.
