'It's not going to happen overnight': Gary Cahill calls on Chelsea fans to be patient with Chelsea's youngsters

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Gary Cahill said: "It is clear that it is going to take time. The average age of the squad is very, very young. I was at the EFL Cup Final and they had chances to win that.

"It would have been a good moment for them. But the squad is still growing, learning and adapting to all the changes. That's not going to happen overnight. They need patience to get to where they need.

It is understandable why there is frustration. But Mauricio Pochettino has experience with big clubs and big players so, yes, it will be good in time. This young squad needs to develop before seeing where they can get to."

Criticism of Pochettino this season has been ruthless although it's hard to see any other manager doing better given the circumstances at Chelsea.

The new owners continue to back the manager despite many calls to sack the Argentine, believing he's still the right man for the Stamford Bridge job.
