Chelsea 'monitoring' Musiala situation — but other Prem club at the front of the queue (reliability: 5 stars)

Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala amid some uncertainty over his future, The Guardian reports.

Musiala spent eight years in the Chelsea academy but left for Bayern in 2019 under promises of a clearer path to the first team. Those promises were delivered as Musiala became a first-team player before turning 18.

Now, the 21-year-old will need to be convinced of Bayern's level of ambition. This summer is going to be one of change for the Bundesliga giants, as their 11-year run of consecutive titles is over and Thomas Tuchel is set to depart as head coach.

Due to their financial issues, though, Chelsea are unlikely to be at the front of the queue at the start of the transfer window.

Instead, Man City are making a big push for Musiala, with Pep Guardiola keen for more options in attacking midfield.

Curiously, one of the reasons why Guardiola feels he's short of options is Cole Palmer's sale to Chelsea last summer. After leaving for more game time, Palmer exploded, scoring 20 goals in the Premier League alone.
