Chelsea 'notify' Ipswich of McKenna interest

The Guardian report that Chelsea have 'notified' Ipswich Town that they are interested in appointing Kieran McKenna as head coach.

The 38-year-old took Ipswich from League One to the Premier League in two years and has been courted by Brighton and Man United. Yet the Blues believe that the Northern Irishman will choose them over other clubs if they approach him.

Ipswich are aware of Chelsea's interest. They want to keep the former Man United assistant and reportedly offered him a new deal, which he is said to have rejected.

McKenna is the preferred candidate to succeed Mauricio Pochettino but Chelsea are not putting all their eggs in one basket. They have also come in touch with Enzo Maresca, who took Leicester back to the Premier League.

Other options include Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness and Girona’s Michel.
