Arsenal have officially sacked Unai Emery.
The three-time Europa League winner with Sevilla is often compared to Ernesto Valverde as an example of a top-club coach who has been underwhelming this season.
Arsenal have hit a new low after the loss to Eintracht Frankfurt at the Emirates on the Europa League Matchday 5. The Gunners have not won any of their last 7 games across all competitions, losing 3 of them and drawing the other 4.
Furthermore, Emery's crew have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and they are just joint-sixth in the Premier League standings, 19 points behind leaders Liverpool and 8 behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
Ernesto Valverde, however, is still backed by the club's board despite a couple of worrying results at the season's start. The Catalans have lost 3 LaLiga games since the season's beginning and had a troubling start to their Champions League campaign.
Interestingly, Unai Emery was linked with a potential move to Barca back in May when Valverde's future was up in the air. As for now, though, it seems unlikely that the board will resort to this option.
