'It felt amazing': Martin Braithwaite reflects on being in Barca's radar

"I was picking up my son from football practice and we are driving home and my agent called and he told me that Barcelona is interested. He said they seemed really, really interested. It felt amazing," Martin Braithwaite said in his interview with CNN.

Braithwaite joined Barca in the winter of 2020 in an €18 million from Leganes.

However, the Dane is yet to leave a real mark at Camp Nou. Martin has played 37 la Liga games since his arrival in Catalonia and scored just 3 goals. He's scored 8 in 49 games since he joined.

Braithwaite may be sold this summer to raise funds for a marquee signing. The former Middlesbrough forward is among the 9 players on Barca's transfer list.

'Such a sad moment': Braithwaite recalls being stuck in wheelchair as a child

Between the ages of 5 and 7, Martin Braithwaite had Legg-Calve-Perthes – a hip disorder that could've damaged his femur. Here's how he recalls this painful moment in life, as per CNN.

"I don't have a lot of memories because it's such a sad moment. You're looking at all the other kids running around, smiling, playing. It hurt. Obviously, it was a really tough period of my life.

"I remember the feeling of, how can you say... embarrassment...about being different. You didn't want this kind of attention," the Dane added.

Thankfully, things took a turn for the better and 23 years later, the forward joined Barcelona as a back-up striker where he's still trying to prove his worth. The 29-year-old has scored 7 goals and provided 3 assists this season.

Barca fans spot Braithwaite-like person in 2014 Clasico photo – Messi scored 3 that night

"What was Braithwaite doing there?" Barcelona fan and Twitter user KratosCule has tweeted, pinning a pic from the 2014 Clasico.

Indeed, this man really looks like Martin Braithwaite. That year, the Dane was enjoying his first season at Toulouse which is located in the south of France.

The girl standing next to him is possibly his future wife Anne-Laure Louis – she was blonde back then.

Braithwaite, if this is he indeed, looks really impressed in that photo – no wonder, because he's witnessing Leo Messi scoring 3 against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Could he even imagine that he would one day share the pitch with the legendary Argentine?
