'Question for Messi fans': Man City fan ridicules himself bringing Kane analogy to Ballon d'Or debate

"I want to ask a question for all Messi fans," Man City fan nicknamed Baldiola tweeted.

"Let's say Messi won the treble with 60+ G/A in the hardest league in the world, but Harry Kane won the World Cup as Player of the Tournament, who would you say deserves the Ballon d'Or? Answer it."

The point is clear: the Man City fan suggests that Erling Haaland, who won the treble last season, deserves the accolade more than Leo Messi who helped Argentina to the World Cup triumph.

However, fans of other clubs, not just Barca and Inter Miami, disagreed with the City supporter.

PankajSP4: "The mental pressure of failing on the international stage again and again yet having the courage to go at it one last time. That’s what makes him Ballon d'Or worthy. If Ronaldo wins the 2026 WC being the best player, then no matter what Haaland, Mbappe or Vinicius win. The only deserving candidate is CR7."

1andonlyProdigy: "It's hard for Man City fans to accept but Messi will win it."

Rly_Den: "No G+A in major finals is what gonna cost Haaland. Besides finals, he also stinked up in semis."

messialltime: "Don’t know if you know mate, but Messi got 67 G/A in the Ballon d’Or calendar. Haaland got 66 G/A. Messi also played most of his PSG season at CAM behind Neymar and Mbappe until Ney's injury in March."

Intermiamifchub: "Cristiano Ronaldo won the Champions league with 60+ G/A but Modric won Ballon D’Or because he led Croatia to the WC final! This isn’t the first time that in a World Cup year, performances in domestic leagues and Champions League get overshadowed, and this won’t be the last."
