Barcelona reportedly consider signing Aleix Garcia their priority in January.
The Spanish midfielder is indeed one of the best players in La Liga this season, but he's not even a defensive midfielder. So why do Barca want him so much?
1. They want to make up for Gavi's loss
Aleix Garcia is an all-round midfielder who can contribute much in defence, just like Gavi. According to Fbref, the 26-year-old averages more clearances, blocks and interceptions than most midfielders in Europe's top 5 leagues.
Interestingly, he is among the La Liga players with the most blocks and interceptions this season.
2. They want more goals
Obviously, this season has not been Barca's best when it comes to converting chances.
Aleix Garcia has 3 goals in just 18 appearances for Girona this season while also generating a lot. He is the player with the MOST goal-creating actions across Europe this term.
3. They want better midfield-attack connection
Although Robert Lewandowski has finally started to get enough chances per game, there is still some lack of understanding between Barca's modified midfield and the front line.
As an outstanding passer, Aleix Garcia would make sure the forwards get even more quality chances – he is currently on top of La Liga in progressive passes and passes into the final third.
