Everton might finally solve their goal-scoring woes after signing Portuguese striker Beto for €30m from Udinese.

It's been quite a ride for the 25-year-old who, at the onset of his career, had part-time shifts at KFC in between playing football just five years ago playing for União Tires.

"I went to KFC because I wanted to get my driver's license with my own money," Beto recalled in 2023. "Some people think my story is difficult because I had to work, but for us, it was normal.

"I would wake up early, go straight to KFC, then rush to the training ground and immediately go to sleep.

"Paying the bills for my mother was like scoring a goal. And then, that job was also connected to ambition. While working in the fast food, I told my friends that I would become a professional football in five years. I did it in four."

Last season, Beto scored 10 goals in Serie A and Everton fans would hope he can do at least as many in the Premier League — anything just not to watch Neil Maupay.
