VAR controversy again, Jota's form continues & more: 7 takeaways from Brighton draw
  • Jota at it yet again: It's no 8 goals in the last 8 games for Diogo Jota who found the back of the net again with a goal that would eventually get us only 1 point.
  • Nat Phillips shines: The centre-back won almost every aerial duel and was sharp as a knife at the back as he barely let any Brighton defence though. Another great performance from Phillips.
  • 2 offside goals: While Mo Salah's strike in the first half was very close as VAR stepped in to give an offside, there could be no doubt about Sadio Mane's header being offside. Just an unlucky day for the attack.
  • We need Hendo to succeed: The captain changed the game in the second half after a toothless first 45 minutes. His presence and passes from the middle of the park made all the difference for Liverpool after the break.
  • 2 penalties, lucky only once: Neal Maupay slashed his penalty wide off the goal in the first half but Gross wasn't missing in the 93rd minute as Alisson Becker watched the ball glide by past him for Brighton's only goal of the game.
  • VAR controversy again: The correct offside decisions aside, the penalty given to Brighton with 2 minutes to go was a very, very harsh call. Welbeck and Robertson both went for the ball and the left-back grazed the striker's foot but the referee deemed it a spot-kick.
  • Top of the table temporarily: The Reds are back on top of the table despite the draw in what's one of the few positives in this game. However, Spurs and Chelsea play tomorrow and regardless of how that game ends, we will be pushed back to 2nd position.
