Liverpool can only make first-team signing in 2022, key reason named (reliability: 4 stars)

It has been a frustrating summer for Liverpool fans - while the Reds have signed Ibrahima Konate, no other signing looks close right now.

Neil Jones of Goal.com, a reliable reporter for Liverpool news, has explained Liverpool's transfer strategy in his latest report.

He says that since the club's wage bill is 2nd only to Manchester City in the Premier League, a world-class signing who would demand a high salary is unlikely this summer.

The likes of Saul Niguez and Youri Tielemans have been dismissed by Anfield 'sources'. "Not financially viable, is the word, either in terms of transfer fee, expected salary or both," Jones explains.

Reportedly, Liverpool will focus on next summer (the 2022 transfer window) as they plan for that to be a 'big one'.

This is so because the club believes "it will be easier then to find the right kind of player to improve and evolve the team."

Jones adds that Liverpool will definitely not overpay and would rather wait it out until the next window than buy an expensive footballer just for the sake of it.

He does add that 'it would be a surprise' should the Reds end this summer without another first-team signing.
