Virgil under pressure, Gordon's frustration & more: 6 episodes from Shrewsbury win you might've missed

In the end, Liverpool managed to comfortably beat Shrewsbury Town 4-1 in the FA Cup clash, but it was not a walk in the park.

Here are some episodes from the game on Sunday you might've missed.

Virgil's trademark diagonal

If someone asks you to describe Virgil van Dijk's signature pass, it will be exactly that: making sure there's space in front of him and pinging a diagonal ball to the right wing.

Conor Bradley acted as Trent Alexander-Arnold's replacement and he did brilliantly to control a tricky ball.

He proceeded to make a cross into the box, but Max Woltman was outnumbered there.

Gordon's penalty shout

A few minutes later, Bradley's pass found Kaide Gordon in the box. He did well to turn around his opponent and run towards the goalline:

Unfortunately, after what looks like tripping from Nurse, Gordon fell down - probably, too easily for referee David Coote to award the Reds a penalty.

Gordon fails to make the most out of Fabinho's great pass

Virgil van Dijk is not the only Liverpool player who's capable of making a great long-range pass. Consider this effort from Fabnho who found Gordon across half the pitch:

The 17-year-old, however, was not fully prepared for this and was ultimately forced into a long-range effort that was saved:

You can understand the youngster's frustration. Fortunately, we know now that his moment would come.

Virgil under pressure

Van Dijk still has not been back to his imperious best since recovering from an awful injury. Here, it takes him a while to shake off an opponent before he can make a back pass to Caoimhin Kelleher:

When he finally does the pass, three Shrewsbury players get into position to put Kelleher under pressure, too. The keeper has to hurriedly kick the ball out of play.

Konate nips Shrewsbury's counter in the bud

It was still 2-1 when Curtis Jones was dispossessed near the opponents' box, and Daniel Udoh who tormented the Reds yesterday and scored the visitors' only goal was already on the run with Fabinho left behind him:

Fortunately, Ibrahima Konate stepped up. He could've done better when Liverpool conceded. Here, however, he did well to block Udoh's path and not concede a foul.

Kelleher stumbles

The Irishman had a good game in general, but he also gave us a scare. In the 87th minute, with Liverpool 3-1 up, Kelleher received the ball but chose the worst moment to stumble on it, with a Shrewsbury forward rushing towards him:

Kelleher managed to save his face somewhat by passing it to Fabinho - even though the episode ended with him falling down.
