Gary Neville: 'Salah not being in Team of the Year is bizarre. He's disrespected globally with these awards'

It's not often you see former Manchester United player Gary Neville rushing to the defence of Liverpool or one of their players - this is one of those rare occasions.

Neville could not believe Mohamed Salah's exclusion from the FIFA Team of the Year. He told Sky Sports: "I’m not a Liverpool fan but for Salah to not be in the Team of the Year is bizarre. It does feel like he’s disrespected globally on these types of awards."

As a reminder, there were four forwards on the list - Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland. Salah did not make the cut despite his strong season so far.

Salah also finished just 7th in the Ballon d'Or, which also surprised and angered a lot of fans. It does feel like he doesn't get the respect he deserves despite being such an amazing footballer.
