Ox's unhappiness about sub, Gomez's last-ditch tackle & 5 more underrated episodes from Forest win

On Sunday, Liverpool defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the FA Cup quarter-final - and the game ended up being tougher than some of us would've expected.

Here are some episodes from the game that might've gone under your radar.

Firmino's dummy

In the 10th minute, Firmino looked poised to receive Konate's through-ball...

But he sprang a surprise on the Forest defenders as he jumped over the ball so that Diogo Jota could run straight on goal.

Unfortunately, Jota had a defender on him and failed to get a shot.

Firmino's dummy plus backheel pass

Another attack early on showed Firmino's link-up play in all it's glory again. First, his dummy helped Oxlade-Chamberlain receive the ball in a supposedly better position - but he got rid of the ball as soon as he got it.

Then, as the ball bounced off Jota's feet, Firmino made a spectacular backheel pass to Tsimikas who supported the attack on the left flank.

Kostas had plenty of space in front of him and took a punt - the ball went just over the bar.

Elliott and Ox create chance for Firmino

To be more precise, Liverpool's pressing created the chance. Elliott intercepted an opponent's pass high up the pitch...

And then, Oxlade-Chamberlain made an easy pass to Firmino who was running one-on-one with Horvath but failed to chip the ball over him.

Alisson faulters under pressure

At the start of the first half, Forest were very ambitious. It seemed to confuse Alisson. First, he made a tough pass for Konate who had to receive it under pressure in the corner of the pitch and return the ball to the keeper.

Then, Alisson's pass forward was intercepted by a Forest player ina very promising position. It would've led to a big chance if it wasn't for the offside flag.

Jota tussles with Worrall

It's a well-known fact that Liverpool work on quick throw-ins a lot - and the opponents in the Championship seem to know it too. Here, we see Forest's Joe Worrall blocking Jota from throwing it in - even though he had no business being so close.

In the end, Jota gave up, pushing Worrall away. Neither player was punished for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Gomez's last-ditch tackle

Forest were really close to punishing the Reds' high defensive line when a through-ball found two attackers running away from Konate, with Van Dijk even further forward.

Fortunately, Gomez was fast enough to cover for the centre-backs as he blocked the opponent's path well before the penalty area.

Ox visibly unhappy about being subbed off

The quadruple sub in the 63rd minute surprised a lot of people - but not for the fact that one of the players leaving the pitch was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The midfielder was really unhappy about it, though.

He was even saying something to himself as he was leaving the pitch. As per some rumours, he said 'I haven’t played for weeks'.
