Liverpool fans slam 'worst decision in football history' as Alisson out of Ballon d'Or best goalkeeper shortlist

France Football announced the shortlist for the Yashin Trophy, the goalkeepers' equivalent of the Ballon d'Or.

Alisson was the first goalkeeper to win the award in 2019 and finished second last year.

This time, however, he was not even on a 10-man shortlist, which included the likes of Dominik Livakovic, Yassine Bounou, Brice Samba and Aaron Ramsdale.

Yes, Liverpool had a poor season in 2022/23, but awards like these should look at the players' individual merits - and Alisson was immense throughout the campaign.

Naturally, the Liverpool fans were outraged when they saw their favourite being snubbed.

Anfield Watch, Twitter: "How on earth has he not even made it as a nominee?! He was immense all year"

WillDaThrilll13, Reddit: "2nd in the Premier League Golden Glove playing behind one of the worst defensive setups we've had in years. Never gonna get the recognition it deserves because of the team being shite but he's seriously incredible"

Kloppholic, Reddit: "Not even baiting when I say that Alisson Becker is better than every single goalkeeper on this list."

pacanukeha, Reddit: "Bizarre that goals vs xG and/or goals above average aren't used. Ramsdale in particular is funny."

LFC Transfer Room, Twitter: "Even though we were rubbish, the fact that Alisson is not on this might be the worst decision in football history honestly. By far the best keeper in the Premier League last year."
