Liverpool fans may be forgiven for not following changes to the Europa League format over the past few years, but it has one key difference from the Champions League.
After the end of the group stage, teams that finished first in their quartets go straight to the Round of 16. Runners-up, however, have to play an extra round against eight teams that finish third in the Champions League groups.
It means that to avoid playing on February 15 and 22, 2024, Liverpool must finish first in their group.
So far, everything is in their hands. If Liverpool win the next two games against LASK and Union, they'll top the group regardless of the results of other matches.
The Reds could achieve their target tonight, though. They still have to beat LASK and hope that Toulouse fails to beat Union.
