RMC Sport, who have very close ties with Anthony Martial's agent, report that after months of tension and rejected approaches the 22-year-old Frenchman will ultimately sign a contract extension at Old Trafford regardless of whether Jose Mourinho stays or goes. The pair have patched it up between them recently which was best evidenced by a scene from the Chelsea draw:
However, the key role to Martial being poised to sign the agreement belongs to Ed Woodward. Although the club chief executive remains a highly unpopular figure with fans, he is a huge admirer of the Frenchman's talent. He was also the main reason behind Luke Shaw's new deal. As for Martial, he will pocket between €150,000 and €200,000 weekly once the agreement is in force.
The player's current deal runs until 2019 but he, like David De Gea and Andreas Pereira, has an automatic 12-month contract extension clause that may be triggered unilaterally by the club. Talks with the Spanish goalkeeper are understood to be ongoing.
Meanwhile, Martial may be up for another outing in Jose Mourinho's starting XI on Tuesday night as the Red Devils are hosting Juventus. The attacker often played in Europe last year but was often overlooked for the Premier League.
