OFFICIAL: Premier League season postponed indefinitely

The Premier League clubs' shareholders have discussed how to respond to the coronavirus pandemic at a meeting on Friday. Most importantly, senior figures have decided that the top flight will not resume at the beginning of May.

The season will only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so, with no certain date set at the moment. Nevertheless, the objective remains to play all remaining domestic league and cup matches.

A return to play will be only possible with the consent of the government when medical guidance allows.

The season's restart would be key for Manchester United as they still have a number of goals to complete. The Reds set to face Norwich City in the FA Cup quarter-final and will try to secure a Champions League spot for the next term.

After 29 Premier League games, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's crew are 5th in the standings, 3 points behind Chelsea and 2 points ahead of Wolverhampton and Sheffield, with the Blades having a game in hand.

At the moment, the 5th place could guarantee the Champions League football next season as Manchester City, who are currently 2nd, have received a two-season ban from the competition.
