The former United midfielder has been part of the first-team coaching setup since 2018.

Earlier reports suggested Darren Fletcher will also be involved. The club statement made no mention of the technical director.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been relieved of his duties after five defeats in seven Premier League games. The humiliating 4-1 loss to Watford proved to be the last straw.

He is also to blame for the mess thats prevailing. It was not ole’s only. Had he had a better staff u never know what wud have turned out

He's only in charge temporarily, let's support him until they get a permanent manager, you can't get the right man in 48 hours, need to take time to get it right

Adebest22: That is exactly how I think.  Carrick was a part of the coaching staff, but Ole still had the last say, so how do we know how much of the this is how Carrick would do it, plus the choice of who plays and where. Lets give him a chance before we crucify him too.
I read that Zidane a) doesn't want to start before the Summer even if he does come to us and b) his wife doesn't want to live in Manchester (a big stumbling block too I think).

Yup we need stability in this period whilst they get the best man. we don’t want knee jerk reaction.
Whoever comes in will have the same squad and won’t be able to make massive changes
The main problem at the end was the players lost faith and weren’t giving all 
Now we will see performances rise
