'I never imagined it would happen': Michael Carrick opens up on taking charge of Man United at Old Trafford

Speaking to MUTV ahead of Arsenal clash, Michael Carrick said: "Taking charge at Old Trafford is obviously a huge privilege and one I never imagined would actually happen at any stage.

"So to be in that position is a huge sense of pride and responsibility, of course. You know, I'm a fan and my family are just supporters of Manchester United anyway, so to be in that seat will be a good feeling.

"I can't hide the fact I am here because of the situation with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so I'm not getting carried away with at all. I'll try to make the most of it but actually it's about the players, the team and getting the right result."

Carrick will be taking charge of his first home game on Thursday following the trips to Villarreal and Chelsea in the Champions League and the Premier League respectively.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick will be in the dugout against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday after finally obtaining his United Kingdom work permit:
