'A nightmare to play against': ex-Liverpool man Danny Murphy praises Ten Hag for picking McTominay ahead of Casemiro

Speaking on talkSPORT radio, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy said: "When you're trying to keep your place in the Manchester United side and you're trying to turn around a couple of losses, you want everybody at it.

"Man United fans will love Scott McTominay's performances the last few games. Yes, he's never going to be a Michael Carrick and have the elegance of someone with two feet, playing out through the lines and from the back.

"That's not what he does. But he will give everything to destroy and stop the opposition from scoring. He would be a nightmare to play against, the way he is at the minute. He looks full of energy, full of confidence.

"He has got two ballers around him in midfield in Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen who are doing the other stuff. At the moment, it is a great problem for Erik ten Hag and he deserves credit for leaving McTominay in."

Man United signed Casemiro from Real Madrid for £70 million last month but the Brazilian is yet to dislodge McTominay in the Old Trafford starting XI.

Although the 25-year-old has had his share of criticism, the Scotland international has now been a first-team regular under five different Man United managers.
