'22 years old, scored 22 over last 2 years': Fan names striker United should sign that media don't talk about

Manchester United need a new striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and there are no second thoughts about that.

The Red Devils have been linked with Wout Weghorst and, of course, there is a long-standing saga involving Joao Felix.

However, a fan has named an interesting young option for that role and not many people have heard of him.

On fan forum RedCafe, a supporter by the username NoPace wrote: "[Amine] Gouiri seems like the most logical signing as a No.9 that we never hear the media (or people in here much) talk about.

"[He's] 22 years old, really good record for France at youth level, scored 12 and 10 the last 2 years [age 20 and 21] and now at 22 he's looking like he'll hit 15 for the first time.

"He's not very big, but set up 2 goals today, one with a brilliant back heel after a good run in behind.

"The second by dropping deep into the half space and passing through the lines, then drawing a defender by running through. The latter type of play is what we ask [Anthony] Martial to do a lot and what Cristiano was just terrible at."

The fan continued: "Would be a risk in terms of physique for a No.9 you would think, but his record is more consistent at a younger age than Kolo Muani or [Marcus] Thuram, and he's technically better than both from what I've seen.

"Probably not the ideal guy to share time with Martial as they're somewhat similar [Gouiri is more nimble, Martial stronger but not wildly different], but I do wonder if he'll move to another club and we'll regret it."

Gouiri currently plays for Stade Rennes and he's among the budding centre-forwards in Ligue 1.

Finding such underrated young gems should be the scouting department's priority instead of looking for big-money targets or players above the age of 30.
