Manchester United missed out on four high-profile youngsters during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's and Ralf Rangnick's spells in charge at the club, it has been revealed.
According to The Athletic, the Red Devils failed to secure the signatures of Benjamin Sesko, Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham and Julian Alvarez.
Haaland may be the most glaring example as Solskjaer recommended Erling to Man United when he was his coach at Molde.
Bellingham was even given a tour of Carrington in 2020 but chose Borussia Dortmund. Ironically, Jadon Sancho may have to do with it.
Alvarez was tracked by Man United for some time and Rangnick even suggested the Argentinian to the club. However, Man Utd's bosses hesitated to act on the piece of advice from the interim manager.
Sesko, Man United's target last summer, was available for £2.5 million when he was 16 at Domzale in his native Slovenia. However, the club deemed the quoted price excessive.
Apparently, Solskjaer even went out of his way to 'express frustration' at the pace of the club's transfer activity, commissioning an internal review into how Man United came to miss out on all those promising signings.
One gem Man United did manage to sign was Hannibal Mejbri for £10 million in 2019. However, The Athletic add that Mejbri was available for a fraction of the price two years earlier when he was at Carrington playing in a five-a-side tournament.
