Bruno – 9, Eriksen – 4: rating Man United players in Aston Villa win

Despite playing out of his natural position, Fernandes put in a fighting performance. He worked his socks off on the right, constantly making darting runs and being available for teammates. Made some excellent passes to trouble the Villa backline and made the difference with a superb finish from close range.

Lindelof commanded a sturdy United backline and maintain his cool when Villa started to push. Always in the right place to close down spaces for the Villa strikers and made 7 possession recoveries. Came up with an amazing goal-line save late on to deny Villa a guaranteed equalizer and some huge clearances late on to help United see off the win.

Casemiro – 8

After losing his form a bit, Casemiro was back to his best in this one. An energetic figure shielding the backline, winning back the ball in key areas many times and playing some amazing forward passes. Played Rashford through to start the move for Bruno’s goal and also hit the post. Won 4/6 ground duels, two tackles and made two clearances.

Rashford loved to play against Villa’s high line, making off the ball runs all through the game to get through on goal. Did manage to do so multiple times and set up Bruno’s strike by troubling Martinez. Unable to get his goal after working so hard for it.

Luke Shaw – 7.5

Shaw excelled at centre-back again, maintaining a great partnership with Lindelof. He was in the right places to cut out Villa’s spaces, making some key challenges. Moved the ball forward diligently.

Sabitzer was spot on with his pressing and ball winning ability on the day. He recovered possession 10 times in the game, often inside Villa’s half to spark counter-attacks. An energetic figure in the attack and helped link-up moves nicely.

The Danish midfielder seemingly lacked his spark on the day. His final third passes went astray and he failed to play his teammates through in some big moments. Struggled to stop Villa’s fast breaks either.
