Glazers' win-win theory to use Jim Ratcliffe explained

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is on the verge of acquiring a 25 per cent stake at Manchester United following months of negotiations, subject to a board vote.

David Ornstein of The Athletic claims that the deal is actually a great one for the Glazers who can blame the businessman for the club's failures and benefit from its successes.

Ornstein said: So what does the 25 per cent get you? Well, the big thing here is sporting control and that's what is being suggested is going to go to Sir Jim Ratcliffe. INEOS, they've got experience of it with OGS Nice.

But what the Glazers might be saying here — this is one theory — is let these guys pay a premium for 25 per cent, considerably over the market value, let them call the shots on sporting decisions.

"If it goes well, then our 75 per cent is going to increase in value. The club is going to be doing well and we'll take the benefit from that. If it does badly, then it's on Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS."
