Gary Neville has also given his stamp of approval for Gareth Southgate becoming the next Manchester United manager.

The England boss is strongly linked with replacing Erik ten Hag, despite the latter's emphatic 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Southgate is reportedly expected to step down as England manager at the end of the Euro 2024.

If he's available - and if Sir Jim Ratcliffe decides to sack Ten Hag - the former Man United defender believes Southgate has what it takes to manage the club.

Quoted by The Independent, Neville said: "I never saw Gareth Southgate as a Manchester United manager, psychologically, I never saw that.

"I can see it now, now Dan Ashworth has come in. I just think, what does Erik ten Hag need to do to stay as Manchester United manager?

"So, for instance, is the FA Cup enough, or does he need to get top four, or top five, Champions League?"

Speculations have been on the rise lately over Ten Hag's future even though he's not in immediate danger.

Earlier, Roy Keane also voiced his support for Southgate to manage Man United one day.
