Alan Shearer believes Marcus Rashford may be up for an extended spell on England's bench unless he drastically turns things around for himself at Manchester United.
With the Euro 2024 coming up this summer, the former England striker reckons Rashford's spot is at risk.
In the recent friendlies with Brazil and Belgium, Rashford played a 15-minute cameo in the first one and had no part in the action for the second.
Although Rashford has scored goals in his last three games for Man United, Shearer believes it might convince Gareth Southgate.
Quoted by The Athletic, Shearer explained: "If Rashford plays well between now and the end of the season, then that could potentially force the manager’s [Southgate] hand.
"But I don’t think he’s a certainty to go, no.
"He’s not a centre-forward, he doesn’t want to play there. He’d be going as a wide forward who can play as a striker in an emergency.
"You can tell from his body language that he doesn’t want to play there for Manchester United.
"If he’s going to be in the squad, it wouldn’t be ahead of Harry Kane, [Ollie] Watkins or [Ivan] Toney, it’d be as a wide forward."
