Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher said: "Manchester United finished third last season.
"And I thought, with the signings, they brought in a better goalkeeper who could play with his feet.
"They brought Mason Mount in almost to replace Christian Eriksen and they brought a striker who they didn't really have last season.
"So I just didn't really think they'd drop out of the top four. This is why they are my biggest underachievers of the season."
Carragher actually has a point as Man United were expected build on Erik ten Hag's season at the club after securing a place in the Champions League.
However, the Red Devils ended up finishing eighth this time around and will be counting on the FA Cup final against Manchester City to save the season.
